Botox®
Botox® Cosmetic
BOTOX® Cosmetic gives near-immediate results that can be produced with almost no recovery time. Several injectables are offered to address the different aesthetic issues of our patients.
Once Dr. Rane consults with the patient and select the most appropriate injectable, the treatment areas are cleansed, the appropriate numbing agent is chosen and applied, and the filler or BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into the tissues. If there is any discomfort, it is minor and temporary. After the procedure is complete, it is important to apply pressure and ice to the treatment area. Makeup can be used immediately after the injections are made, however, and there is virtually no downtime associated with any of our injectable procedures.
For Restylane® and BOTOX® Treatments
To learn more about how the injectables offered by Dr. Rane differ and decide which is appropriate for you, please contact our office for a consultation. More information about all of our injectables, including BOTOX® Cosmetic and Restylane®, is available.
How Long Do The Results Last?
Results do vary from person to person, but most individuals can expect results to last anywhere from 3 to 4 months. You don’t need to receive treatment that often, but it is recommended to have treatments 2-3 times per year to keep results.

Dermal Fillers
If you’re considering Dermal Fillers
As we age, many areas of the face start to become wrinkled, saggy, and you lose that youthful shine. Men & Women want to look as young as they feel, which is where dermal fillers come in.
Dermal fillers have come a long way in technology, with fillers lasting longer – and results looking better. We can provide non-intrusive fillers to the cheeks, lips, under-eye, temple, perioral area, and more. Look as young as you feel, and reach out to us today about Dermal Fillers!
Laugh Lines (Nasolabial Folds)
It is not atypical to see most women in their 40’s and above get these lines. The dreaded parenthesis around the mouth.
We use two fillers: Juvederm that lasts a year or a brand new filler introduced in 2017 called Fillers that lasts 18 months to fill this area and make the laugh lines less visible.
Cheeks
Sagging cheeks and loss of volume is a very common problem that women seek help with. There are three fillers that we typically use to fill this area just enough that your will see youthful cheeks on your face and third dimension to your face. Let’s face it, a youthful face has nice triangular shape with a fuller cheeks and narrow jawline.
We typically use a standard filler.
Under Eye Area
A very common problem – a deep line just at the junction of the lower eyelid and the cheek. It is also called the tear trough.
Typically we use a smooth thin filler that allows us to fade away this line.
Lips
Women love nice curved and shapely lips. Not overdone but perfect. And don’t we hate those vertical lines.
Well, there is a perfect solution with Filler. This is specifically designed to help create shapely lips and efface the vertical lines. It lasts a year. We at Genesis are extremely careful not to create overblown lips that look unnatural.
Temples
You may have noticed that when you look in the mirror or look at your selfies, your temples may have become hollow. We tend to lose fat in this area and the eyebrow tail tends to sag down. We can fill your temple and raise your eyebrow to create a nice contour in this area by using a standard filler
Perioral Area
Have you noticed those hollow areas under your lips and seen your nice happy smile turn into a sad smile with the corner of the lips curling downwards? We can help you fix this with Juvederm or Filler, both fillers that fill our these hollow areas and elevate the angle of your mouth.
Jawline and the Chin
Multiple clinical studies have shown that as we age, we lose bony and soft tissue volume over the angle of the jaw and the chin tends to recede. We can increase the lost volume and increase the projection of your lip by injecting a standard filler.
Nose
Not all of us are blessed with a perfect nose. (me neither). Typically we could have a bump over the bridge of the nose or we could have a recessed bridge lacking height. Lo and behold, 10 minutes of injection time and it will be fixed. A filler like Juvederm is typically used to enhance this area.

Kybella
If you’re considering Kybella
You are a good candidate for Kybella if
- You’re bothered (unhappy, self-conscious, embarrassed) by fat under the chin, also known as submental fullness
- You feel the condition makes you look older or heavier than you actually are
- You don’t want to have surgery
- You eat well and exercise, but submental fullness does not go away
How Does Kybella Work?
The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
How Is Kybella Treatment Performed?
Treatment can only be administered by a Kybella-trained healthcare specialist. At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
The number of treatments varies upon the severity of the fatty deposits under your chin. Dr. Rane will determine the number of treatments necessary to achieve the results. The treatments will be spaced 1-2 months apart and typically will include two treatments. Additional treatments may be necessary to get the optimal outcome.
How Much Time Will I Need to Recover
After Kybella treatment, you will likely have some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin. Be sure to inform your healthcare professional if you develop an uneven smile, facial muscle weakness, or difficulty swallowing.

ThermiTight for Skin
What Is ThermiTight for Skin?
ThermiTight is an FDA-approved controlled sub dermal (beneath the skin) tissue heating procedure that allows tightening of the skin and destruction of fat in areas that are treated. It is based on radio frequency.
How Does ThermiTight Work?
A fine probe is inserted in the target area and radio frequency is applied to the probe under the skin or in the fat. The probe delivers the heat generated from the radio frequency. The temperature of the probe is monitored with a special screen and, as the temperature rises, the collagen fibers in the skin shrink resulting in tightening of the skin.
Where Can ThermiTight Be Used on the Body?
ThermiTight can be used on neck, abdomen, thighs, knees, arms and the breast.
Can ThermiTight Reduce Fat?
If you have a small amount of excess fat in the areas mentioned above, ThermiTight can destroy the fat too.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
The procedure takes 30 min to 60 minutes for each area.
How Long Is the Downtime?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and has minimal downtime of a few days.
Are There Any Incisions or Scars from the Treatment?
The incision to insert the probe is 2mm or 1/8 of an inch. There are no scars.
When Will I See Results?
You will see an immediate tightening of the skin that will continue to improve over the next few weeks and months.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Typically you will need one treatment only. Additional touch up may be necessary sometimes.

Laser Hair Reduction
If you’re considering laser hair removal
Excess facial or body hair can be a nagging cosmetic concern for women. While depilatories, shaving, waxing and electrolysis are common solutions for temporary hair removal, they can be uncomfortable, time-consuming and temporary.
At Mona Rane MD, we offer laser hair removal as a revolutionary solution to control and eliminate unwanted hair.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Our laser hair removal procedure uses a low-energy laser to gently remove unwanted hair. The laser energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. In a fraction of a second, the energy is transformed into heat and the follicle destroyed.
The procedure is quick and convenient – full-face, bikini and underarm treatments could take as little as 15-30 minutes. Hair follicles are in different growth cycles and some may be active and some may be dormant. Therefore, several treatments (typically six) are required to destroy hair follicles in different growth cycles. Since the laser targets the pigment of the hair follicle, laser hair is most effective on light-skinned patients with dark hair.
No procedure can guarantee permanent hair removal, but most patients can expect a major reduction in hair growth, leaving remaining hair thinner and lighter in color.
Advantages of Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a safe, effective alternative to daily or weekly shaving, and is useful for large or tough-to-reach areas.
Are You a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
- If you are light-skinned and dark-haired, you are an ideal candidate for laser hair removal. As a rule, the pigment in dark hair absorbs more laser energy, making black or brown hair easier to treat.
- Light hair, such as blonde, red or gray, contains a pigment that absorbs laser energy less readily and therefore does not respond as well.
- While laser treatments for darker-skinned patients have improved the amount and texture of unwanted hair in these patients, patients with tanned skin are not ideal candidates. It is recommended they wait at least four weeks until their tan fades before proceeding with laser hair removal.
How Many Laser Treatments Will You Need?
The number of hair removal treatments that you will need for optimal long-term benefits usually depends on a few factors, including the area being treated, and the density of the hair in that specified area.
A Patient’s Hair Distribution Is Also Affected by a Few Factors
These factors include age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet, medication, metabolism, and more. Total hair removal usually requires around 6 to 8 sessions to achieve optimal results.

Sclerotherapy
If You’re Considering Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a treatment used for spider veins or varicose veins of the legs. Sclerotherapy has been used for the treatment of varicose veins for over 150 years. It was first attempted in 1682, but was abandoned due to high rates of side effects with the drugs used at that time. Surgical stripping then became the treatment of choice.
Advances were made and eventually safer and more effective sclerosants were developed. Of particular importance was the development of sodium tetradecyl sulfate (Sotradecol or STS) in 1946, which is one of the most widely used sclerosant used to this day.
How Does Sclerotherapy Work?
Sclerotherapy is the “gold standard” and is preferred over laser treatments for eliminating spider veins (telangiectasia) or small varicose veins. Injecting the unwanted veins with a sclerosing solution causes the targeted vein to shrink and then dissolve over a period of weeks as the body naturally absorbs the treated vein.
Unlike a laser, the sclerosing solution additionally closes the “feeder veins” under the skin that are causing the spider veins to form, thereby making a recurrence of the spider veins less likely.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Sclerotherapy?
Anyone who has spider veins, and possibly even small varicose veins, is a possible candidate for sclerotherapy, whether they have one vessel or numerous. For varicose veins, tests can be run to help determine if good results could be achieved with sclerotherapy or if they would be a better surgical candidate.
What Is the Difference between Spider Veins and Varicose Veins?
Spider veins are small, thin veins that lie close to the surface of the skin. They may appear in a simple linear pattern or sometimes look like a starburst. Although spider veins are connected to the larger venous system, they are not an essential part of it. Many factors can contribute to the development of spider veins including heredity, pregnancy, weight gain, or occupations or activities that require prolonged sitting or standing.
Varicose veins are larger, usually more than a quarter inch in diameter, darker in color and tend to bulge from the surface of the skin. Varicose veins are more likely to cause pain and can be related to more serious vein disorders. Sclerotherapy can be used to treat varicose veins, but often require surgical intervention.
What Is the Treatment Like?
The treatment involves a series of tiny injections and covers the entire surface of the legs from hip to toe. This can take anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours depending on how many vessels need to be treated. Compression hosiery is then placed on the area immediately post-treatment. Most patients tolerate the treatment very well. Shorts and the compression hosiery are available at our office.
What Kind of Solutions Are Used?
Sodium tetradecyl sulfate (Sotradecol or STS) and/or hypertonic saline.
What Kind of Side Effects Occur?
Tiny, purple spots of bruising are usually seen at the injection sites. This usually resolves in about one week and is the most common side-effect. Hyperpigmentation, or a brown streak, along the course of the vein can sometimes be seen. This is not a common finding and usually only occurs in one or two places. They look like a small bruise and resolve within a few months. Telangiectatic matting is the formation of tiny, red vessels and is treated with follow-up sclerotherapy treatments. It also is not a common finding.
Extremely rare side effects can include allergic reactions, skin ulcerations, thrombophlebitis, and thromboembolism. We have not experienced any of these reactions in o ur eight years of experience.
What Can I Expect after Treatment?
Compression hosiery is applied in the office post-treatment and must be worn for 3 days to 2 weeks. They must be slept in the first night. Discomfort after treatment is rare, but there may be a slight tingling sensation for the first several hours. The spider veins will usually look worse before they look better due to the inflammation caused from the sclerosant. The vessels will fade very gradually and will be lighter after each treatment.
How Many Treatments Are Needed?
Most patients will require between 3 and 6 treatments. Treatments are spaced between 5 and 6 weeks apart. All the vessels are treated at each session and will lighten gradually each time.
Are There Any Activity Restrictions after Treatment?
Exercise must be avoided for 48 hours post-treatment. Excessive heat such as hot baths, hot tubs and saunas should be avoided for a week post-treatment. Walking is actually encouraged, especially immediately after the treatment is completed.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect?
Usually around 80-90% reduction can be expected. There will still be some faint veins that can be detected after treatment, but there should be a dramatic improvement. Sclerotherapy does not prevent the future formation of new vessels and follow-up treatments are nearly always required.

Fraxel-II® Laser Treatment: 1550/1927 Wavelengths
With today’s emphasis on active, healthy lifestyles, most men and women feel a lot younger than they look. Fortunately, there is a new aesthetic laser solution that provides a fresh chance to turn back the clock on aging.
Fraxel can be used to improve conditions present in superficial and deep layers of the skin. FDA-cleared indications include:
- Skin resurfacing to reduce wrinkles on face and neck
- Treatment of wrinkles around the eyes
- Treatment of pigmented lesions, such as age spots, sun spots and melasma
- Treatment of scars resulting from acne, surgery or trauma
After Fraxel laser treatment, skin generally feels softer, looks smoother and tighter, and pores are usually smaller.
To appreciate the benefits of Fraxel, think of a family portrait or digital photograph in need of high-quality restoration or touch-up. Just as a damaged painting is delicately restored one area at a time, or a photographic image is altered pixel by pixel, the Fraxel laser improves your appearance by affecting only a fraction of your skin at a time with thousands of microscopic laser spots. It’s like digital photo editing software for your skin!
Fraxel can be performed in our office using topical anesthesia and oral medications. Treatment takes about 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area(s) being treated. Because the procedure does not “ablate,” or remove the outer skin layer, patients can resume routine activities more quickly. There is no skin breakdown or any weeping or peeling of the skin. Swelling is minimal and generally resolves in about three days. The skin will have a pinkish tone for five to seven days
For optimal improvement, a series of four to six treatments, spaced four to eight weeks apart, has been shown to be most effective. Results are both immediate and progressive, with noticeable and beneficial effects accumulating over one to three months.
